Marcos tasks DFA, DMW to work with Hawaii gov't to help Pinoys after wildfire
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Thursday tasked the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to work with the Hawaiian government to assist Filipinos who were affected by the wildfires.
Marcos said he deeply felt the weight of the tragedy with the losses among the Filipino and Filipino-American communities.
"In the spirit of unity and compassion, I have instructed the DFA and DMW to collaborate with the state of Hawaii to assist grieving families and help Filipino communities rebuild," Marcos said in a tweet.
"We stand in solidarity with those affected, offering our condolences and continued support," the President added.
The death toll among Filipinos and Filipino-Americans following the Maui wildfires already climbed to 29.
The newly identified victims include seven members of the Quijano family and two members of the Recolizado family.
The Maui Police Department has called on the public to report to them if their loved ones are still missing.
A makeshift memorial has been erected by the people of Lahaina not far from the location where the wildfire ravaged around two thousand establishments and residences. —NB, GMA Integrated News
