Remains of 4 Pinoys who died in Taiwan factory fire arrive in PH

The remains of four overseas Filipino workers who died in a blaze in a factory in Taiwan arrived in the country early Sunday.

Their bodies were released at a cargo center in Parañaque City, according to the the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Officials and personnel of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) and OWWA expressed condolences and assisted the relatives in claiming the OFWs' remains.

They also assisted in making arrangements to bring the OFWs' remains to their respective provinces in coordination with the OWWA regional offices.

The victims died in a fire that engulfed the factory of Lian-Hwa Foods Corporation in Changhua county in central Taiwan on April 25.

MECO chair Silvestre Bello III earlier identified the initial three victims as Renato Larua, 30, of Cavite; Nancy Revilla of Marinduque; and Aroma Miranda of Tarlac.

The fourth victim was Maricris Fernando of La Union, according to a later update from MECO.

Four others were hurt.

Bello earlier assured the victims' families of assistance both from the Philippine and Taiwanese governments. —KG, GMA Integrated News
