No Pinoys hurt in New York parking structure collapse —DFA exec

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday said no Filipinos were hurt in the collapse of a garage structure in New York City's lower Manhattan on Tuesday.

Interviewed on Unang Balita, DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs Eduardo Jose de Vega said this was according to the report submitted by Philippine Consul General in New York Senen Mangalile on Wednesday.

“Wala po sabi ni Consul General Mangalile. Nagpadala siya ng report kahapon at nakausap ko siya... Wala raw Pilipino kahit isa,” De Vega said.

(Consul General Mangalile said there are no Filipinos hurt in the incident. He sent a report and I talked to him. No Filipinos, not even one.)

One worker was killed and five others were injured after the second floor of the garage structure collapsed onto the first, according to a Reuters report.

Police said they had no reason to believe the incident was anything other than a structural collapse. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
