'Walis tambo' man in US Capitol siege gets 45-day jail term

The Filipino who brought a "walis tambo" when protesters breached the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 has been sentenced to 45 days in jail by the US District Court.

Kene Brian Lazo — arrested in May last year at his home in Norfolk, Virginia — had entered into a plea agreement in connection with cases of misdemeanor.

Lazo was among the thousands of supporters of former US President Donald Trump identified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to be part of the group that illegally entered the US Capitol.

Probers identified Lazo through his social media posts. He has since expressed regret over his participation in the attack, which resulted in the deaths of five persons and injury to scores of others.

Aside from misdemeanor, Lazo is also facing a case of sexual battery of a child in Virginia a few months after the incident at the US Capitol. —KBK, GMA News
