POEA: More jobs abroad available as pandemic restrictions relax

Job opportunities abroad are opening up as more countries relax their COVID-19 restrictions, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said on Tuesday.

“Dahil po sa muling pagbubukas ng atin pong ating ekonomiya sa iba't ibang bansa at pagka-release ng health protocols ay unti-unting nanunumbalik ang sigla ng employment,” POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia  said in an interview GMA News’ Unang Balita.

(Due to the reopening of the economy in different countries and the relaxing of health protocols, the employment situation is slowly picking up.)

There are jobs available for seafarers as many cruise ships have resumed their operations, Olalia said.

Aside from this, healthcare workers such as nurses and caregivers are also needed in the UK, Germany, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia.

Olalia said no placement fee is required for jobs made available under a government-to-government agreement.

He said that for skilled workers in European countries, the placement fee should not be higher than the monthly salary for the job.

Olalia also warned job applicants against transacting with illegal recruiters.

He also reminded them that the payment of placement fees should be done in the later part of the recruitment process. —KG, GMA News
