DFA repatriates over 400 Filipinos from Macau, Thailand, Vietnam

More than 400 distressed overseas Filipinos have safely arrived back in the Philippines, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Monday.

Of those repatriated, 203 came from Macau, 53 were from Thailand, and 142 came from Vietnam.

The DFA said the latest government-initiated flights brought the total Filipino repatriates from Macau to 5,761 since the onset of the coronavirus outbreak in 2020.

A total of 808 overseas Filipinos, meanwhile, were brought home from Thailand over the two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fresh batch of repatriates included Filipino workers from Thailand who lost their jobs due to the pandemic and were having difficulties in supporting themselves while looking for new employment. Also joining them were infants, children, and individuals with medical conditions.

Apart from the returning Filipinos, the DFA said the recent flight from Macau also brought home the remains of three Filipinos who died in the autonomous region due to non-COVID medical conditions.

The Philippine Consulate General in Macau assured Filipinos living in the region that its repatriation program would continue until international commercial flights back to the Philippines resumed.

It also advised those who want to return to the country to register their details at the Consulate’s online registry - https://tinyurl.com/repatMacau. — DVM, GMA News
