79 more Filipinos repatriated from Vietnam
Seventy-nine distressed overseas Filipinos in Vietnam were repatriated on Wednesday, the Philippine embassy said.
“The distressed Filipino nationals in Ho Chi Minh City requested the Philippine government’s assistance as many of them have been without work due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the host country,” the embassy said in a statement.
“Prior to this latest repatriation, the embassy had already repatriated 378 overseas Filipinos in 2021 alone, and a total 847 overseas Filipinos since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” it added.
The embassy said the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam as well as the offices of the Philippine Airlines in Vietnam also assisted in the repatriation efforts. — VBL, GMA News
