Pinay admin officer in Kuwait offers free face masks to fellow OFWs

A 38-year-old Filipina administrative officer in Kuwait is giving away do-it-yourself face masks she makes with her family to fellow OFWs hit hardest by the coronavirus disease pandemic.

"Wala kasing mabilhan dito so we decided to try make our own face masks and give the extra OFWs who need them," said Mayla Rose Mago, a mother of two, in an interview via Messenger on May 17.

"Kami mismo gumagawa. Since lockdown, kung ano na lang available dito sa bahay," she added, referring to her family.

Mago said she learned to make face masks from video tutorials only.

"Since 20 days kaming total lockdown, wala kaming gagawin after homeschooling so nag-start ako sa maliit na sewing machine."

"Hindi ko nga naisip na magagawa ko dahil hindi naman talaga ako marunong manahi. Puro YouTube at Google training lang."

Eventually, the face masks the Magos have made reached the United Kingdom.

"We have shared dito sa mga friends and kapitbahay na malapit. Nakapag-send na rin kami for my sister-in-law sa UK and she shared them with her colleagues."

"Gamit na gamit nila sa UK dahil obligado na din sila gumamit while outside. Quality naman yung gawa namin dahil makapal yung tela at secure yung fitting sa mukha."

"Bonding memories na rin during lockdown. Being productive at family affair na puwede naming maibahagi sa iba in our little way."

As of May 20, there were a total of 17,568 cases of COVID-19 in Kuwait, and  4,995 of whom recovered. —LBG, GMA News
