DFA advises Pinoys in Thailand to take extra precautions after bombings
The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday urged Filipinos staying or traveling in Thailand to take extra precautions after a series of small bombings occurred in Bangkok.
"Filipinos staying and traveling in Thailand are urged to remain calm, but take extra precautions. Filipinos are likewise advised to cooperate with Thai authorities as they implement heightened security measures," the DFA said in a bulletin.
On Friday, as Bangkok hosted the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministerial Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings, six small bomb blasts wounded at least four people in the Thai capital.
The first small explosions happened during rush hour before 9 a.m. at two sites in central Bangkok, according to a report by Reuters.
The other blasts were at a government complex in the north of the city.
Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha ordered a probe into the bombings.
The DFA said no delegation attending the AMM was affected by the bombing. No Filipinos were hurt too, it added.
The Philippine Embassy is monitoring the situation, the DFA added.
Filipinos may contact the Philippine Embassy for further information or request for assistance at (+662) 259-0139 to 40; 258-5401 (landline), +668 992-65954 (hotline) or bangkok.pe@dfa.gov.ph / bangkokpe@gmail.com (email), the DFA said. —KG, GMA News
