Ex-hubby kills Pinay wife; bystander shoots suspect dead in Las Vegas
A Filipina died after her ex-husband shot her in front of their 4-year-old child in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Citing police information, Unang Balita on Thursday morning also reported that the suspect, also a Filipino, was killed by a bystander in a shootout.
Based on US police report, Unang Balita identified the Filipina victim as Karen Gotigdoc-Lopez and her estranged husband as Fernando Lopez.
Police investigation showed that Karen and Fernando had a heated argument inside their car and later pulled over in front of a house.
Knowing that Fernando had a gun, Karen got off the car and immediately handed over her 4-year-old boy to the two men standing in front of the house where the car was parked.
Moments later, Fernando shot Karen who died on the spot.
One of the men in front of the house took his gun and engaged Fernando in a shootout. Fernando was killed.
One bystander was hit by a stray bullet and he is now in a stable condition, according to the police.
Also the police said that the 4-year-old boy was turned over to the office of the Child Protection Services.
Record shows that a US court had prohibited the couple from seeing each other after the annulment of their marriage when Fernando was found to be a womanizer and an abusive husband.
Karen's kin in Tarlac are preparing to repatriate her remains. —LBG, GMA News
