24 Pinoys home from Lebanon with the help of PHL Embassy
Twenty-four Filipinos, including kids, were repatriated from Lebanon on the last day of the previous year, bringing the total number of Filipinos sent home from the Middle Eastern country to 336 in 2017.
Prior to their repatriation, the OFWs were dispersed across various shelters in Lebanon, among them the Migrant Workers and Other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center in Beirut.
The repatriation was a joint effort of the Philippine Embassy in Beirut and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office.
"The Embassy, through the Assistance-to-Nationals Section assisted the OFWs in securing their exit clearances from the General Security (Lebanese Immigration) while the Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Beirut provided their plane tickets," the Embassy said.
The Philippine Embassies in Bahrain and Kuwait assisted the 24 Filipinos during their respective layovers.
At present, Lebanon and neighboring Syria are under Crisis Alert Levels 1 and 4, respectively. The repatriation started in 2012 at the height of the Syrian conflict. —KBK, GMA News
