New postal ID now accepted as passport requirement

Here's one more reason for Filipinos to apply for the new Postal ID: it is now accepted as one of the requirements when getting a passport.

The Philippine Postal Corp. said the Department of Foreign Affairs will now accept the new Postal ID as a supporting document for passport application.

PHLPost's new Postal ID is a wallet-sized PVC plastic card containing layers of digital security. It replaces the paper-based ID and contains information on the bearer such as fingerprint, photo and signature.

"We are thankful that the Department of Foreign Affairs has included the Postal ID as one of their government-accredited identification cards. PHLPost assured the public and other government agencies of the integrity and credibility of their now improved ID system," Postmaster-General Josefina dela Cruz said.

Dela Cruz added the new postal ID would be "more durable and presentable."

The new postal ID has security measures like fingerprint patterns and a quick response (QR) code on a magnetic stripe.

PHLPost has set up 43 capture stations in Metro Manila, 143 in the rest of Luzon, 41 in Visayas and 33 in Mindanao to process the new IDs. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
