No Pinoy aboard Taiwan plane crash – DFA
No Filipino was aboard the TransAsia Airways flight that crashed in Taiwan on Wednesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.
This was the confirmation of Philippine officials in Taiwan, Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said in a text message to reporters.
"Our representative office in Taiwan has confirmed that there are no Filipinos on board the TransAsia plane that crashed yesterday," Jose said.
As of Thursday morning, Taiwan's Central News Agency reported at least 48 people were killed while 10 were injured in the TransAsia crash on the outlying island county of Penghu.
It said the 58 people on board had included two foreigners, who it initially identified as Jeromine Deramond and Penelope Luternauer.
CNA quoted TransAsia as saying that the pilot, Lee Yi-liang, had a flight operation experience of 22 years, while that of co-pilot Chiang Kuan-hsing was 2.5 years.
The flight, coded GE 222, took off from Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan for the half-hour flight and crashed at about 7 p.m.
It said Penghu was still under the influence of Typhoon Matmo, locally codenamed Henry in the Philippines. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
