PHL Consulate General in Hong Kong closed Aug. 21, 27

The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong will be closed on August 21 and 27, which are non-working days in the Philippines.

In an announcement posted on its website, the Consulate General said Aug. 21, a Tuesday, is Ninoy Aquino Day while Aug. 27, Monday, is National Heroes' Day.

However, the Consulate General said Filipinos in Hong Kong can contact it via emergency hotlines during those days. The numbers are:

  • Consulate assistance: (852) 9155-4023
  • Labor hotline: (852) 6080-8323
  • Overseas Workers Welfare Administration hotline: (852) 6345-9324

Malacañang's Proclamation 295, issued Nov. 24 last year, lists Aug. 21 as a "special non-working day," and Aug. 27 as a regular holiday.

Aug. 21 marks the 29th death anniversary of former Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr., father of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.

The elder Aquino was assassinated upon returning to the Philippines in 1983. His killing sparked protests that eventually led to the EDSA-1 revolt in 1986.
