Filipinos hurt due to Taiwan quake now 15 —DMW
The number of Filipinos who got injured following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that rocked Taiwan last week has increased to 15, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Wednesday.
The DMW, however, assured that all 15 Filipinos have received initial medical treatment and have been discharged from hospitals.
“They are recuperating in their respective company dormitories and accommodations. Follow-up consultations and check-ups have been scheduled as well,” the agency said in a statement.
According to the DMW, each injured Filipino will receive P30,000 in financial assistance from the Philippine government.
The Migrant Workers Office in Taipei is also closely monitoring the conditions of the wounded Filipinos, in coordination with their companies and medical authorities.
The DMW said its Migrant Workers Offices in Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Taichung are also working with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) to monitor the situation and assist the OFWs in need of help.
The six-man team deployed by DMW to Taiwan on Monday, April 8, has also been meeting with various Filipino communities and workers' groups to offer full support from the government.
Food packs and other needed items, as well as psychosocial support, would be extended to OFWs affected by the powerful quake, said the agency.
