South Korea interested in hiring more Pinoy caregivers

The South Korean government is interested in hiring more Filipino caregivers, according to a report on "State of the Nation" Tuesday.

South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines, Lee Sang-hwa, said this is due to the good reputation of Filipino caregivers in different parts of the world.

“Filipino caregivers have a high reputation, good reputation worldwide. There will be, in our view, a win-win partnership between our two countries,” he said during the National Day and Armed Forces Day of the Republic of Korea event.

There are about 60,000 Filipinos working in South Korea.

Lee said they are discussing with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) the possibility of coming up with a bilateral labor agreement.

The target schedule for the new batch of Filipino caregivers to be deployed to South Korea is before the end of the year.

Last month, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced that the Philippines and South Korea had signed a free trade agreement which would generate jobs and contribute to the Philippines' bid to be a regional hub for sustainable investments. — with Giselle Ombay/BAP/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
