What to see in Ozamiz City

Only an hour-and-a-half flight away from Manila is the quaint city of Ozamiz in Misamis Occidental. Named after the pride of the city, former Senator Jose Fortich Ozamiz, Ozamiz is a serene city by the sea. GMA News TV travel program “Weekend Getaway” recently visited this simple but beautiful city. Here are some of the tourist favorites you must visit when you head down to Ozamiz. Hoyohoy Highland Stone Chapel Adventure Park

Hoyohoy is not your ordinary adventure park. Aside from the scenic view of the mountains in Ozamiz, it also is home to two of the longest ziplines in the country. At 1,500 meters and 2,000 meters long, these two ziplines will give you a ride to remember. And at P600 per person, these ziplines offer an experience you shouldn’t miss.  If you’re lucky and the sky is clear, Hoyohoy is also a great place to catch a glimpse of Lanao del Norte in the distance. The adventure park is only 45 minutes away from the Ozamiz City airport. Naomi’s Botanical Garden Filled with a variety of plants and flowers, the eight-hectare property Naomi’s Garden has become a major tourist attraction in Ozamiz and a major supplier of lanscaping plants to the greater Mindanao. The park also sells beautiful pots, and allows guests to try their hand at pottery. Visitors can stay overnight at Naomi’s Garden’s homey inns. Naomi’s Botanical Garden is only 10 minutes away from downtown Ozamiz City. Misamis Occidental Aquamarine Park

This haven is a government project that’s helping the fishermen of Ozamiz by breeding different kinds of fish and shellfish. The park is full of mangroves that provide shelter to schools of fish, and because of the place’s natural beauty, it’s also a favorite destination of government agencies and private organizations as a seminar and team-building venue. The park is only 30 minutes away from the Ozamiz City airport. Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral The Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral right at the heart  of Ozamiz is home to Mindanao’s only pipe organ, which is also the second largest pipe organ in the Philippines (next to the pipe organ of the Manila Cathedral).  Visit the cathedral for some quiet time, or to listen to exquisite pipe organ music.
