Those who haven’t yet been to Pagbilao in Quezon will be surprised that it has so much to offer as a vacation destination. Last Aug. 24, the GMA News TV travel program "Weekend Getaway" visited this first class municipality not very far from the provincial capital of Lucena. To get to Pagbilao, ride a bus from Manila to Lucena. There are a lot of terminals in Metro Manila that offer bus rides to Lucena. Pagbilao is just one jeepney ride away from Lucena’s Grand Terminal. Pagbilao got its name from what used to be two of its most famous local products: papag and bilao. Today, the place is famous for its beautiful islands that are a favorite among campers and island hoppers. The island of Borawan is one of Pagbilao’s top destinations. The island was named after the world-famous islands of Boracay and Palawan. Borawan is known for its Boracay-like crystal clear waters and its Palawan-like limestone cliffs. To get to Borawan island, take a bus from Unisan and alight at Brgy. Marao in Padre Burgos. From there, you can rent a boat bound to Borawan. Puting Buhangin island is another favorite among tourists. Aside from its milky-white sands, the island is also known for Kwebang Lampas, a tunnel-like cave with openings at opposite ends. The water at one end of the cave is freezing cold, while water at the opposite end is toasty. From Pagbilao Market Terminal, you can take a jeepney going to Brgy. Polo. From there, Puting Buhangin is only a stone’s throw away. The resorts in Pagbilao are not just for beach lovers. Animal lovers and foodies can visit Silangang Nayon Resort for its zoo and floating restaurant. To get to Silangang Nayon, get off at Bagong Tulay on the way to Lucena. Take a tricycle from there to the resort. One of Quezon’s well-kept secrets that is a must-visit to any tourist is the Hinguiwin Falls. It was just recently launched as a major tourist attraction in the province. The water is invitingly cold and perfect for those looking for a respite from the heat. The falls are located in Padre Burgos, Quezon, about 15 minutes away from Pagbilao.
