The Jun and Miriam Santiago love story on 'Wagas'

Highly intellectual, strong-willed, and outspoken, Senator Defensor-Santiago is widely regarded as one of the most powerful stateswomen the nation has ever known. However, only a few realize that the controversial lawmaker is also a devoted wife to Atty. Jun Santiago for more than forty years already.

Played by Kapuso drama stars Heart Evangelista and Geoff Eigenmann, the couple traces back their unusual love journey in the hallways of the University of the Philippines in Diliman.

The feisty senator did not initially dream of settling down. In fact, her ambition was to become a nun.

Despite having many admirers, Miriam’s focus in college was the university publication being the first female Editor-in-Chief of The Philippine Collegian. Miriam’s charm caught the eye of the rich, campus heartthrob Jun who initially failed to impress the passionate campus journalist. But with his genuine love, patience and persistence, Jun later won Miriam’s heart. From being a new lawyer to becoming a wife, a mother, and later a political icon, Senator Miriam has always had her husband by her side. And after forty years of being together, Miriam and Jun renewed their marriage vows in June 2011.

This year, the couple is celebrating their forty five years of togetherness. With the passing of the Senator on September 29, 2016,  the vow to their undying love “Until Death Do Us Part” has been fulfilled.
