Arnold Clavio celebrates 25 years in journalism
This 2012, GMA News anchor and host Arnold Clavio celebrates his 25th year in broadcast journalism.
To mark the silver anniversary of his journalism career, Clavio was given his very own star on the Eastwood City Walk of Fame, now on its seventh year.
“With this recognition, parang lalong nakakainspire na nasa tama pala yung ginagawa natin,” said Igan. The star was awarded to Clavio for his contribution to the broadcast industry and for his work with the Igan Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on the needs of children with diabetes. In 1994, Clavio joined GMA Network as a reporter for "Brigada Siete," an investigative news program that was hosted by Jessica Soho and Louie Beltran. Clavio bagged top prize in the Department of Health's AIDS-STD Media Awards for his "Brigada Siete" report on Filipino AIDS activist Sarah Jane Salazar. From then on, his career blossomed. In 1995, Clavio replaced Edu Manzano as host of the reality-medical program "Emergency," which would go on to run for over a decade. In 1999, his radio program "Dobol A sa Dobol B" was named Best Public Affairs Program on Radio in the KBP Golden Dove Awards. In 2004, Clavio started co-anchoring GMA Network's late night newscast “Saksi.” He's also currently a co-host of the morning news program “Unang Hirit,” which premiered in 1999. Both news programs air weekdays on GMA-7.
In addition to anchoring newscasts, Clavio has also hosted a number of special programs produced by GMA Public Affairs. In 2008, Clavio became the host of "Case Unclosed," a program that tackled unresolved crimes and controversies in the Philippines. During the 2010 national elections, Clavio also co-hosted with Howie Severino and Malou Mangahas the special series "Kandidato," which featured in-depth interviews with the presidential candidates. He has also been hosting the reality-docu program “Rescue” and the talk show "Tonight with Arnold Clavio" since 2010. "Rescue" airs Thursday nights on GMA-7, while "Tonight with Arnold Clavio" airs Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings on GMA News TV.
Clavio has made his mark as a journalist not only on radio and TV, but also in print as an opinion columnist for the tabloid Abante, for which he regularly writes commentary about the latest news. —Ria Landingin/PF, GMA News
