'Bayan Ko' wins as Outstanding Inspirational Drama at the 2014 Asia Rainbow TV Awards

GMA News TV’s original series Bayan Ko received the award for Outstanding Inspirational Drama at the 2014 Asia Rainbow TV Awards held June 26 at the Venetian Hotel in Macau.  Organized by the Hong Kong Television Association and the China Television Production Committee, the Asia Rainbow is now considered the Emmy Awards of Asia.

Bayan Ko creator and program manager Nessa Valdellon and director Adolfo Alix Jr.  receive the award for Outstanding Inspirational Drama.

The original series about an idealistic new mayor (starring Rocco Nacino) fighting corruption and a political dynasty (led by Pen Medina as the governor) made waves when it aired right before the 2013 Philippine elections.  Its aim was to make voters realize that good governance should be demanded of elected officials.

Bayan Ko was created by Nessa Valdellon, directed by Adolfo Alix Jr., written by Rodolfo Vera and executive produced by Eliza Zamora-Solis.

Bayan Ko was GMA News and Public Affairs’ first foray into social realist drama production.  This was followed by the mini series Titser and the historical drama Katipunan.  This year, GMA News and Public Affairs will be airing a drama on government hospital issues Sa Puso Ni Dok (starring Dennis Trillo and Bela Padilla) and a historical series Ilustrado (with Alden Richards in the role of Jose Rizal).
