Solenn Heussaff’s S-List: 5 DIY ways to makeover your old black pumps
A pair of black pumps, like the little black dress, is a staple in every girl’s wardrobe. However, because these shoes can be worn with so many different outfits, they tend to wear out pretty fast. A girl who loves wearing her black pumps may end up having to buy a new pair every so often. To help you save money, “Fashbook” host Solenn Heussaff offers a few ways to give your old black pumps a brand new look.
Materials you’ll need:
Plain black pumps
Lace
Ribbons
Beads
Scissors
Nylon string
Glue gun
Jewel beads
Masking tape
Glue
Paintbrush
Acrylic paint
Ribbon / Lace Shoe Enhancement
Add some sex appeal to your shoes with temporary high tie-up straps that you can remove or change anytime you want.
Step One: Measure your ribbon or lace. Solenn suggests using around 2.5 meters.
Step Two: Anchor the ribbon or lace to your foot by placing the middle part under your middle toe.
Step Three: From here, criss-cross the ribbon or lace around your legs to achieve your desired design.
Step Four: Wear your pumps.
Vary this design by sewing small beads onto the ribbon or using different colored ribbons. You can also do this for your other pairs of closed flat shoes.
Beaded Shoe Enhancement
If you’re up for a unique and fun take on the strappy heel, this design is for you.
Step One: Create a small hole on either side of each shoe where you would be comfortable putting straps.
Step Two: Tie a piece of nylon string on one side and start placing your beads on the string.
Step Three: Tie the other end of the nylon string to the hole on the other side of the shoe.
Step Four: Remember to create an allowance for your foot to avoid breaking the strap when putting on your shoes or taking them off.
Bejeweled Pumps
This design will definitely make your pumps look like a glamorous expensive statement piece, perfect for a special occasion.
Step One: Using a glue gun, place a small amount of glue on the back of a jewel bead, press it onto your shoe, and hold it for a few seconds.
Step Two: Continue until you’ve covered the heel or the whole shoe, depending on your preference.
Glitter Pumps
If you find rhinestones too over-the-top, you can also turn heads with glittered pumps. Just get ready to get a little bit messy.
Step One: Cover your workspace with newspaper to make cleaning up easier.
Step Two: Place masking tape on the edges of your shoes, and anywhere else you don’t want to put glitter.
Step Three: Cover the opening of your shoe with masking tape as well to keep the glitter from falling into your shoe.
Step Four: With a paintbrush, cover your shoe with a good amount of glue.
Step Five: Pour glitter onto your shoe, making sure it gets an even coating. Tap off the excess glitter.
Step Six: Leave your shoes to dry overnight.
Step Seven: Tap off any more excess glitter and remove the masking tape.
Keep in mind that this works best on leather/leatherette pumps. Suede might not hold the glitter very well. Also, try not to get these shoes wet as this might cause the glitter to come off more quickly.
Temporary Cap Toe Enhancement
If you want an easy enhancement that you can change depending on your outfit and mood, this one is for you. This will not damage your shoe no matter how many times you change it, and best of all, it’s super easy to do.
Step One: Stick masking tape on the toe part of your shoe.
Step Two: Paint the taped part your desired color. Be careful not to get paint on any part that is not covered with masking tape.
Step Three: Leave to dry for a few hours before wearing.
With these five do-it-yourself shoe enhancements, you’ll never have to throw away a dull pair of worn out black pumps again. Good luck and have fun!
