5 ‘Biyahe ni Drew’-approved extreme sports activities in Caramoan
The Caramoan Islands – which consists of breathtaking and uninhabited islands – offer more than a handful of activities that are utterly perfect for tourists who want to indulge in some adrenaline-pumping sports. Undeniably, Caramoan is the preferred destination of the Survivor series.
From Survivor US, Israel, Bulgaria, Serbia, Sweden, India, France, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands and Holland, here comes “Biyahe ni Drew” to take Caramoan’s challenge!
Check out the list of extreme sports activities you can do in these islands:
Spelunking
Difficulty level: Easy
Omang Cave is popular for those who want to try caving while in Caramoan.
Locals said that getting to the Omang Cave is just easy but for tourists who want to try it for the first time, ready yourself to slip on wet leaves and rocks! Ten to fifteen minutes away from the famous Gota Village Resort, where Survivor tribal councils were held, the “Biyahe ni Drew” crew needed to cross two rivers and do a little trekking to reach the entrance of the cave!
When undertaking this challenge, Biyaheros need to be equipped with a helmet, flashlight, and trail food (for the 45-minute trek under the scorching sun).
Upon entering the cave, you will be greeted by its cathedral-like formation. For a perfect caving adventure, you sure don’t want to miss the chance to see what’s in the inmost part of the cave. Since the slope is really rocky and slippery, you have to carefully climb your way up to see Omang’s hidden wonder.
During spelunking, you never know what you’ll find, but don’t worry because chambers are not totally dark as light passes through the cave’s crevices.
Kayaking
Difficulty level: Easy
In Caramoan, there are several kayaking trails available and one of these is the Sohoton River route. As you paddle across the river’s serene water, you will also witness not just the unspoiled beauty of the place but also how the locals live a simple life nearby.
Aside from trekking and diving, kayaking is also one of the locals usual hobbies. For locals, kayaking is just a piece of cake but for tourists, it is always best and advisable to have a partner when cruising with a kayak.
Also, you will be exposed to the sun during the whole trip so don’t forget to apply sunblock and for chances of falling off, it’s always best to bring a waterproof bag for your food and water.
To be surrounded by lush mangroves while listening to the sound of the chirping birds, kayaking is also perfect for those who just want to savor every moment of being away from the city.
River tubing
Difficulty level: Easy
In search of an activity that promotes teamwork? Then, river tubing is the perfect water activity for your squad! For an intense yet fun family bonding, parents are also encouraged to bring their teenage children with them.
This water activity requires each to stay connected as the group try to cross the river, this can be achieved by sitting on a line of floaters, locking your arms with the legs of the person behind you as you keep on paddling using your hands!
Aside from the goal of getting across the river to reach the Cadiklum Subterranean Cave, you can also conquer your fear of the dark while gazing at the superb stalactites and stalagmites.
Rappelling
Difficulty level: Moderate
Do you want to get a better view of Caramoan? Well, the challenging part here is definitely the 15-minute and 350-meter trek because of the slippery trail due to bad weather so it is important to always wear rubber shoes and comfortable clothes. Once you reach the Gota’s Peak, it is now time to rappel 65-meters down.
As you go all the way down, ready yourself for the overwhelming noise of monkeys and yes, for the jaw-dropping scenery that will make you feel like in an absolute paradise!
Cliff-diving
Difficulty level: Hard
The Caramoan Peninsula is endowed with picturesque limestone or rock formations, no doubt why Caramoan is often visited by thrill seekers. There are two ideal cliff-diving spots in Caramoan, the Langkipao and Caliog Cliff. Locals say that the Caliog Cliff is ideal for people who have an adequate experience in diving as the cliff stands 45-50 ft.
Meanwhile, the Langkipao Cliff stands 17 ft. to 23 ft., the huge boulder already has a diving board and a shift ladder which makes it accessible to cliff divers who are willing to take the plunge. According to locals, March to October is the low tide season where it is best to try cliff diving while it is 5 ft. higher.
From Caramoan Islands’ exotic beauty to its exciting activities, a one-of-a-kind adventure awaits! Now, when was the last time you experienced something for the first time?---BMS/GMA Public Affairs
