Do you know what type of Biyahero you are? Whether you travel to view magnificent sights or to try new adventures and whether you are on a budget or on a travel splurging spree, there are places in the Philippines that will surely fit your Biyahero preferences.
To help you plan your ultimate summer vacation, we've listed down destinations and activities fit for your lifestyle. Here is "Biyahe ni Drew's" ultimate guide for all kinds of Biyaheros!
The Laid-back Biyahero
Are you the type of Biyahero who loves visiting beautiful places? Do you just have to take pictures in every possible angle at every possible corner of this island or that museum? Does your idea of a perfect summer vacation include sitting on the beach with a cold drink and a book in hand? If your answer is yes then, you are probably a laid-back Biyahero!
Laid-back Biyaheros travel to relax and appreciate the things around them. If you want to spend a quiet morning surrounded by nature, you can try riding a boat and explore Davao Del Sur's Lake Mirror, which was named as such because of the way it perfectly reflects the view of Mount Apo in the morning.
The massive rock formations of Biri Island are also a sight worth a hundred Instagram photos. Drew and the "Biyahe ni Drew" crew had to stop for impromptu photo ops because the place was just too beautiful. It is also the perfect place to meditate.
Sometimes the summer heat could be a bit unforgiving that is why it is so tempting to spend the afternoon under a coconut tree while staring at the ocean. Malapascua's white sand beach is perfect for this activity. It also helps that there are restaurants near the beach if ever you get hungry.
Other than enjoying the sceneries, laid-back biyaheros love spending quiet time with their travel buddies. Take this up a notch and meet the locals too. Drew had fun dancing with the Bagobos when he visited Davao Del Sur. Having coffee with the Tagbanuas of Culion is also a memorable experience because they share coffee with the whole community.
The Adventurous Biyahero
Adventurous biyaheros are all about seeking new thrills and trying things they haven't done before… even if it's scary! You only live once so better make the most out of your summer vacation.
If you love water adventures, Drew and the "Biyahe ni Drew" recommend cliff diving in Siargao. We guarantee that the jump is as thrilling as the beauty of the corals that will greet you once you are underwater. You can even take selfies while you jump!
Speaking of swimming underwater, snorkelers and divers will surely love Culion, Palawan's coral garden. Before, not many biyaheros go to the island because of its history but now that it is open to tourists, the beauty of its underwater treasures are being discovered too.
Adventures with animals can go beyond a trip to the zoo. You can swim with thresher sharks at Monad Shoal in Cebu, have a close encounter with the giraffes and zebras in Busuanga or even join the rodeo in Bukidnon.
Food-venture? The locals of Busuanga recommend the exotic root crop capari, which they substitute for rice. There is also the so-called manla, a rare sea creature often found in muddy places. Uson is another crab-like seafood that you can try in Sipalay City, Southern Negros. Drew says these exotic dishes are all worth a try.
For an out-of-the-country adventure, Derw challenges you to try snowboarding and skiing in Hokkaido. It's a sure way to escape the heat of summer!
The Budget Biyahero
More money, more travels. This is the reason why it is important to know how to get the best deals when planning a trip. If you like to spend within your means without having to compromise anything, you are a budget Biyahero.
Tip: Aside from booking your tickets early, try to choose flight schedules that are often less popular to other travelers. Flights scheduled during midnights and the wee hours of the morning are usually cheaper. Canvass and call hotels to find the best room promos. It takes extra effort but it also guarantees extra pocket money.
You don't have to spend much to go on an adventure. Drew's regular Biyahero runs give him a chance to go around town for free. You can also befriend the locals for free bangka rides just like what Drew and Iya did when they went to Ambuklao, Bokod, Benguet before climbing Mount Pulag.
Drew usually eats with the locals to find out what the province specialty is. Not only does this ensure that the food will be authentic, it also comes cheaper. There is also nothing wrong with the tried and tested turo-turo as long as you are sure that the food is clean. Ordering group meals like the sungka meal that the "Biyahe ni Drew" team had in Davao del Sur is a sure way to save. Sharing is caring, Biyaheros!
The Luxurious Biyahero
We all have that dream vacation where we do not have to worry about anything. No hassles, no traffic, no uncomfortable hotel rooms, and no bad food. Luxurious Biyaheros are either people who have all the money they can spend or are willing to save for months just to have that ultimate vacation they want.
You don't have to leave the Philippines just to experience a luxurious trip. There are private planes and yachts that could take you to your private island of choice just like what Drew did when he had a grand vacation in Palawan. Drew had an island all to himself, did all the water activities he wanted to do, and ate food cooked by a private chef.
Looking for a special pasalubong? The most expensive coffee in the world is produced right in Davao del Sur. Civet coffee costs P10,000 per kilo, P1,000 per gram, and P180 per cup. Cap your luxurious biyahe with an equally luxurious drink!
Have you figured out what type of Biyahero you are? Drew himself says that he is a combination of the laid back, adventurous, budget, and luxurious biyahero. His advice: "Don't be scared to be that Biyahero that you want." Sulitin ang bawat adventure!
