Over P8M worth of marijuana destroyed in Kalinga —PNP
The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have destroyed P8.648 million worth of marijuana in four plantation sites in Kalinga this week.
In a statement on Friday, the PNP said 43,000 fully grown marijuana plants and 400 grams of cannabis products were destroyed in Barangays Ngibat and Tinglayan in a three-day operation.
At the first site with an estimated land area of 500 square meters, around 5,000 marijuana plants worth P1 million were uprooted and 400 grams of marijuana dried leaves worth P48,000 were destroyed.
At the second site with 1,000 sqm space, 10,000 marijuana plants worth P2 million were uprooted, while at the third site with a land area of 800 sqm, 8,000 marijuana plants worth P1.6 million were taken out.
Meanwhile, at the fourth site with 2,000 sqm space, 20,000 marijuana plants worth P4 million were also uprooted.
PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas said the operations were launched by joint elements of several units and offices of the PNP and PDEA.
On Wednesday, the operation culminated with the uprooting and burning of the marijuana plants.
"We will continue with the marijuana eradication operations nationwide with the aim of totally ending the illegal cultivation and sale of this plant,” Sinas said.
“Likewise, appropriate court charges awaits against identified weed cultivators," he added. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
