NDRRMC verifying five dead in Porac supermarket wall collapse

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said it received a report that five persons died in the supermarket incident in Porac following Magnitude 6.1 earthquake that hit Luzon.

"The wall of a supermarket collapsed, not the entire supermarket... Five were reported dead. That's the report from the LGU and this is being validated," NDRRMC information officer RJ Mago said.

Mago said the assessment of the damage was ongoing.

According to an interview on "24 Oras", Porac Vice Mayor Dexter David said 40 persons were trapped at the supermarket.

He mentioned the deaths of two children but in separate barangays apart from the supermarket incident.

"Nasawi na po 'yung mga bata. Hindi po sila nag-survive," he said.

David said four floors of the building went down.

"Totally bumagsak po talaga 'yung apat na palapag na building," David said.

Three have been rescued so far while operations are ongoing to save the others.

A power outage is being experienced in Porac as of 7:23 p.m. Authorities are still investigating if there are other people hurt in the incident. —NB, GMA News
