No provincial buses, UV Express at Valenzuela terminal amid dry run of EDSA ban

Amid the scheduled dry run of the provincial bus ban along EDSA, no provincial buses and UV Express were present early Monday at the Valenzuela Integrated Bus Terminal, one of the suggested terminals for provincial buses, according to a report by Darlene Cay on GMA News’ Unang Balita.

No provincial buses and UV Express were seen at the terminal from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m on Monday. Only city buses, which usually use the terminal, were present at the Valenzuela Integrated Bus Terminal.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) earlier announced that it will conduct a dry run operation banning all provincial buses on EDSA.

Bus operators were advised to use the terminals outside Metro Manila such as those in Valenzuela, Sta. Rosa in Laguna and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

The dry run, MMDA said, aims to test if the policy will be effective in easing traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

The MMDA said it will change the scheme depending on the result of the dry run.

Some passengers expressed their support for the new MMDA scheme for provincial buses. But according to a bus driver, the space at the Valenzuela Integrated Bus Terminal is limited only.

“Sisikip dito kasi maliit ito e. Baka mamaya tambakan ng mga provincial bus dito. Ang mga city operations mawawalan ng puwesto,” bus driver Manuel Baylon said. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
