Ex-mayor of town in Bukidnon shot dead in Cagayan de Oro City
A former mayor of a municipal in Bukidnon died in an ambush on Saturday morning in Cagayan de Oro City.
Citing initial police information, a GMA News report identified the victim as Joelito Talaid, 43, a former mayor of Kadinigilan, Bukidnon.
An initial police investigation showed that the attack on Talaid occurred at past 9 a.m. in Cagayan de Oro City's Upper Carmen area.
Talaid died on the spot after the attacker pumped a bullet in his head.
A witness said Talaid bought fruits at a store, and moments before riding his car a gunman emerged and shot him point blank two times in the head.
Before fleeing, the assailant threatened the security guard at the store against interfering, ordering him to keep his mouth shut. He then fled on a waiting getaway motorcycle, the witness said.
Citing initial information, Carmen Police Station 4 chief Senior Inspector Excyllo Alcantara said that the two suspects riding tandem on a motorbike were wearing grey T-shirt, and bull cap.
Recovered from the crime scene were one spent bullet, two fire cartridges, the victim’s caliber .45 handgun, his car, and the fruits he bought from the store.
Police investigation is on-going for the identities of the attackers and the motive for the crime. —LBG, GMA News
