Devotees in provinces hold own version of Black Nazarene Traslacion
Aside from Quiapo, Manila, Black Nazarene devotees in provinces across the country also conducted their own versions of the Traslacion on Monday, a report on Unang Balita said.
The Traslacion is the re-enactment of the transfer of the image of the Black Nazarene from Intramuros to the Quiapo Church in 1787.
The feast, one of the country's popular religious events, pays homage to the image of a dark skinned Jesus Christ in maroon and gold vestments carrying a cross.
Apart from the foot procession, residents of Hagonoy, Bulacan also loaded their replica of the Black Nazarene on a small boat and paraded it along the river.
Bohol
Meanwhile, in Garcia Hernandez, Bohol, devotees walked more than three kilometers to reach the summit of “Bohol Calvary” where the replica of the Black Nazarene was found.
Despite the bad weather, devotees still participated in the Mass.
Cagayan de Oro
Amid the possible terrorist threat, more than 15,000 devotees still participated in the Black Nazarene procession in Cagayan de Oro City.
At least two participants also reportedly passed out during the procession due to fatigue, but were immediately given first aid treatment.
Davao del Norte
Meanwhile, the Black Nazarene procession was held for the first time in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
Devotees were delighted because they did not have to travel to Manila to join the Traslacion and fulfill their devotion.
Aside from residents of Tagum City, devotees from nearby towns also joined the procession.
Ilocos Norte
A Black Nazarene procession was also held in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
More than 300 devotees joined the procession, and some of them came from nearby towns.
Participants brought their own small replicas of the Black Nazarene.
A Mass was held before the procession which was attended by some persons with disability.
Legazpi City
Hundreds of devotees also joined the Black Nazarene procession in Legazpi City.
One of them was Romeo Acta who, despite the complications of stroke, still attended the procession.
This, he said, was his way of giving thanks to the Black Nazarene for giving him his second life.
"2010 ako nai-stroke. Sa madaling salita sa pagbalik loob ko sa Kanya, awa ng Diyos, 2011 nakalakad ako. Patay na po ako na nabuhay muli,” Acta said.
Zamboanga City
In Zamboanga City, two large replicas of the Black Nazarene were paraded from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to the city hall.
Devotees who attended the procession also brought with them their small replicas of the Black Nazarene.
Mary Grace Daquel, a devotee who attended this year’s procession, also participated last year to pray for the healing of her husband’s broken foot. She said she used a handkerchief to wipe the face of the Black Nazarene and rubbed it on his husband’s foot every day until he was healed.
She believes that her consistent prayer and devotion to the Black Nazarene healed her husband and even allowed him to go back to work. —Erwin Colcol/KG, GMA News
