Ex-Famy mayor nabbed in Laguna drug raid
A former vice mayor of Famy, Laguna was arrested following a police raid at his residence, John Consulta reported on 24 Oras on Wednesday.
At least P500,000 worth of drugs was found at the house of former Famy Mayor Amadeo Punio.
There were also various guns and rounds of ammunition while bullet shells were strewn around the firing range and watchtower outside the house.
Pieces of jewelry supposedly acquired in exchange for drugs were also taken out of a vault that police forcibly opened after Punio didn't give its number combination.
Though Punio first insisted that everything found inside the house, including a vault forced open by police, were entrusted to him by a relative, he later admitted to needing money.
"E sir, pangangailangan lang," Punio told authorities.
Police are now looking at the syndicate's alleged transactions through a blue book containing the names of their clients and the mobile phones seized during the raid.
Punio's group allegedly supplied drugs in several towns in Laguna and were also involved in gun for hire activities.
"Aside sa nakuha natin na information sa illegal drug activities niya, meron rin 'din pong mga reports na may mga kasamahan siya at siya rin po ang leader sa gun for hire kaya nakita po natin, maraming mga empty shells, mga baril," said Senior Sperintendent Ronnie Montejo, Laguna Police Provincial Director. -Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
