NDRRMC: Iligan copra warehouse fire contained but could burn for 2 more days

The fire that hit a warehouse in Iligan City Monday started at 5:50 p.m. was contained at 8:20 p.m. Monday, but may not be completely put out until after at least two days, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

A report on "24 Oras" said the fire had yet to be put out as of Wednesday evening.

Granex Port Manufacturing Corp.'s warehouse contained flammable copra.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office has distributed face masks so residents in affected areas can breathe better.

The fire has caused at least P220 million in damage to property, the NDRRMC said.

Injured were at least four people - one of them 88 years old.

In its May 22 report, the NDRRMC also said at least 147 families or 666 people in the area had been evacuated to a nearby gymnasium, barangay hall, and church.

Among the injured, who were admitted to the Adventist Medical Center in Iligan City, were:

- Clint Cha, 44
- Raymond Magallon, 27
- Vicente Ramayan, 88
- Romeo Morallas, 52

Meanwhile, at least 147 families or 666 people were evacuated to the Barangay Tag-ibo Gym, Acmac Barangay Hall, and San Roque Church in Barangay Acmac.

The report said the city government voiced concerns the workers at the company may lose their jobs due to the fire.  — ELR, GMA News
