5,675 new Philippine COVID-19 infections; active cases down slightly to 49,968
The Philippine tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases rose to 1,467,119 on Saturday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 5,675 new infections as three laboratories failed to submit data on time.
According to the DOH, the country’s active cases slightly decreased to 49,968.
Of these, 89% were mild, 5.4% were asymptomatic, 2.4% were severe, and 1.5% were in critical condition.
The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 1,391,335 after 7,552 more patients recovered from the illness.
Meanwhile, 96 new fatalities brought the death toll to 25,816.
Eleven duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count. One case was also found to be negative and was removed from the case count.
“Moreover, 42 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.
Data from the DOH showed that 55% of intensive care unit beds nationwide were in use while 34% of the mechanical ventilators were occupied.
In the National Capital Region, 40% of the ICU beds were being utilized by patients while 29% of the mechanical ventilators were in use.
