PNoy's remains cremated, to be buried Saturday
Former President Benigno Aquino III's remains have been cremated, his sister Kris told members of the media early Thursday evening.
Kris said a mass would be said for Aquino at the Ateneo on Friday. He would be buried at the Manila Memorial Cemetery on Saturday.
"He could have been lying in state in Malacañang pero nirerespeto namin na hindi lahat ng tao sa PIlipinas ang nababakunahan so what we have decided as a family right now, we know that there are people waiting outside," Kris said.
"We spoke about it our plan was really to take the urn of our brother with us pero bibilsan lang namin dito," she added.
She also said the ceremony in honor of her brother at the Heritage Park in Taguig City would be for one hour.
"The rest of the plans ay 'yun palang napapagusapan namin pasensya na hindi talaga namin inaakala mangyari. Nagulat kaming lahat," Kris said.
In a Facebook live, Kris said Aquino's remains will be transferred to the Church of the Gesu in Ateneo de Manila University at 10 a.m.
Kris also mentioned that there will be a Holy Mass for her brother's passing at 5 p.m. and another Mass at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, the actress said there will also be a funeral mass still at the Church of Gesu at 10 a.m., which will be led by Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
After the funeral mass, the former president's remains will be laid to rest at the Manila Memorial Park in Quezon City, where he will also be receiving arrival honors and 21-gun salute.
The former president died earlier "peacefully in his sleep," according to his siblings. At 61, Aquino succumbed to renal disease secondary to diabetes.
Peace with Noynoy
Before departing with the media, Kris said she was able to make peace with her brother before he passed away.
"The only thing I can say more and this is the only thing I will say, God Bless, because we made our peace... but that is private and I would like to keep that to myself. But I was so grateful to him na binigay sa amin," Kris said.
"Nagpapasalamat ako na napatawad ako at the end at ako tinuring niya akong bunso, and pinapangako ko sa kanya, gagawin ko ang lahat to be 1%of what he is as a man. Maraming salamat sa pagmamahal na binigay niya sakin," Kris said.
It can be recalled that Kris said she and Aquino had a rift but they had reconciled. —NB, GMA News
