Duterte gets Sinopharm shot vs. COVID-19

President Rodrigo Duterte has been inoculated against COVID-19 using China-made Sinopharm vaccine.

In a Facebook live, Duterte former assistant Senator Bong Go showed the video of the President receiving a jab in Malacañang.

The vaccine was administered by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

"I feel good. I have been expecting a shot, this vaccination a long time ago... Sinopharm itong itinurok sa akin [I was injected with Sinopharm]," Duterte said after he received the COVID-19 jab.

According to Duterte's spokesman Harry Roque, the 76-year-old Chief Executive said he preferred to get inoculated using Sinopharm vaccines.

Earlier this year, Duterte said he would not be given the anti-COVID-19 vaccine in public.

A month later, Duterte said he changed his mind, saying he would publicly get vaccinated.

Duterte also said in a previous briefing that he will not get vaccinated against COVID-19. His spokesman, Harry Roque said his decision to waive his slot was only "temporary."

"His doctors allowed him to get vaccinated," Go said in Filipino.

Sinopharm application for an emergency use authorization is still pending before the Food and Drug Administration after it was filed in March.

The FDA, however, has given Sinopharm's vaccines approval for compassionate use.  —NB, GMA News
