Customs seizes P6.8-M worth of shabu concealed in air fryer

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized P6.8-million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) concealed in an air fryer that was imported into the Philippines from Sha Alam in Malaysia last Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

According to the BOC the shipment was declared as an air fryer and silkware. But physical examination found that it contained two frying pans and one air fryer which had two plastic packs of shabu as confirmed by laboratory testing.

The BOC has since issued a warrant of seizure and detention, and cases would be filed against the importer for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

As an attached agency of the Department of Finance (DOF), the BOC is mandated to assess and collect revenues from imported goods, simplify and harmonize customs procedures, and exercise border control to prevent the entry of smuggled goods. — DVM, GMA News
