Año tasks PNP to probe NDFP consultant Echanis slay
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Tuesday tasked the Philippine National Police (PNP) to look into the killing of National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) consultant Randall Echanis in Novaliches, Quezon City.
"I will have that incident investigated by the PNP to identify the perpetrators," Año said in a message to reporters.
Echanis, 72, was found dead inside his rented house together with his alleged neighbor.
However, the Quezon City Police District insisted that Echanis was not among those killed in the stabbing incident. They identified the victims as one Louie Tagapia, 48, and a certain Manuel Santiago based on ID cards found on the house.
The wife of Echanis, Erlinda, has already disclosed that it was her husband who was killed. She also condemned the move of La Loma police of forcibly taking the body of her husband from the funeral parlor.
After cops took the remains of Echanis, paralegal Pao Colabres was arrested and would be charged with obstruction of justice, Anakpawis said.
QCPD spokesperson Police Lieutenant Johanna Sazon said she is not privy yet why the cops took the body. She also maintained that concrete evidence such as DNA is needed to prove that the body was that of Echanis and not of Manuel Santiago.—AOL, GMA News
