Duterte names PACC chief Dante Jimenez as Robredo’s replacement at ICAD
President Rodrigo Duterte has designated Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) head Dante Jimenez as co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), a post that was briefly held by Vice President Leni Robredo last year.
Jimenez’s appointment paper was signed on February 21, according to Malacañang on Friday.
The PACC chief used to be an anti-crime advocate before his appointment to the anti-corruption body in January 2018.
The President, meanwhile, appointed veteran diplomat Enrique Manalo as the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Rodolfo Robles as ambassador to Canada.
He also named Abdullah Hashim a member of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority.
Duterte removed Robredo from the ICAD in late November over supposed missteps she took including talking to foreign entities critical of the anti-narcotics campaign.
More than a month after her dismissal, Robredo, who helped supervise the campaign for only 19 days, told the nation on January 6 that the current drug war, which has already claimed the lives of more than 5,000 suspected drug users and peddlers, was a failure.
She also said that only 1% of drug supply had been seized by the authorities since Duterte assumed office in June 2016. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
