NBI files murder raps vs Sandra Cam, 6 others over vice mayor's killing

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed a complaint for murder and frustrated murder against Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board member Sandra Cam over the killing of a vice mayor last year.

Cam was tagged in the death of Batuan, Masbate vice mayor Charlie Yuson III in Sampaloc, Manila last October 9. She denied involvement in the incident which also injured two other men.

Aside from Cam, the NBI's death investigation division also sought the prosecution of her son, Marco Martin Cam; Nelson Cambaya; Junel Gomez; Bradford Solis; Juanito de Luna; and Rigor dela Cruz.

Gomez, Solis, De Luna, and Dela Cruz were arrested the day after Yuson was killed.

The NBI named Yuson's widow, Lalaine; Charlie, Yuson, Jr., and Rufino Alforte as complainants.

Yuson, Wilfredo Pineda, and Alberto Alforte were having breakfast when they were shot at. Pineda and Alforte were injured and taken to the University of Santo Tomas Hospital for treatment.

In an earlier report, Lalaine said her husband had told her that only Cam would do him harm. His son, Charmax, had won the mayoralty race over Sandra's son, Marco.

Denying involvement in the ambush, Cam said "[i]t is so unfair that our family is being dragged into this, we’ve moved on from that election."

"Me and my son had nothing to do with that ambush of ni Vice Mayor and OIC Mayor of our town, Batuan," she said at the time.

"As a mother, I sympathize with the bereaved family [pero] hindi po totoo na politically motivated 'yan. Wait for the investigation to roll, huwag muna sana tayong gumawa ng mga speculation,” she said.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra ordered the NBI to investigate the incident last October 18. —LDF, GMA News
