Duterte explains penchant for having military men in his Cabinet
President Rodrigo Duterte reiterated Monday that he choose military men to be part of his Cabinet because they followed orders.
“Most of my Cabinet members are military men, you know why? Gusto nyo malaman? My penchant for military men…I am selected by the people, not by the military, not by the police… kasi utusan sila madali,” Duterte said in his fourth State of the Nation Address.
“Kapag sinabi mong walang corruption, walang corruption,” he added.
He added that members of the armed services were aware that he was a lawyer, and they thus assumed that he would never issue any illegal order.
Duterte specifically pointed to Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu as possessing the qualities he wanted.
A former Armed Forces Chief of staff, Cimatu had been ordered to lead the environmental clean-up of Boracay Island.
“Sa Boracay I sent Cimatu, sabi ko puntahan mo doon. Ito si Roy nakilala ako Mindanao. Mayor ako ng 23 years and all of them passed by Mindanao. Sabi ko, trabahuhin n’yo ‘ya and they did it in six months,” Dutere explained. — DVM, GMA News
