Carl Angelo Arnaiz laid to rest

Carl Angelo Arnaiz, the teenager who was killed by Caloocan policemen in what they claimed was a shootout, was laid to rest in a public cemetery in Pateros on Tuesday afternoon, radio dzBB reported.

GMA News' Saleema Refran said a Mass attended by Arnaiz's family and friends was held at Mater Dolorosa Church in East Rembo, Makati City, prior to his burial.

Meanwhile, friends and classmates of Arnaiz in UP Diliman staged a protest as they sought justice for his death.

Arnaiz, 19, a resident of Cainta in Rizal, went missing for 10 days before his parents found his body in a funeral home in Caloocan City on August 28. He was reportedly killed in the wee hours of August 18.

Authorities claimed he resisted arrest after robbing taxi driver Tomas Bagcal on C3 Road in Caloocan City, an allegation that the Public Attorney's Office (PAO) refuted, citing the results of its forensic examination on Arnaiz's remains.

The forensic analysis conducted by PAO showed that Arnaiz was tortured before he was killed as his wrists were swollen and bore handcuff marks.

Carlito, the teenager's father, also dismissed accusations that his son fought back, saying his son did not know how to use a gun, much less own one.

Policemen who were the last to see Arnaiz alive have been relieved from their posts pending investigation of the incident. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK/KVD, GMA News
