Respondents in Dacera case: Hotel staff ‘slow’ in responding after flight attendant was found unconscious

Some of those linked to the death of Christine Dacera claimed that the staff of the hotel was slow in responding after being informed that the flight attendant was found unconscious in the bathtub of a hotel room in Makati City.

"Medyo mabagal kasi kami po nagpa-panic po kami na mabilis na kunin siya agad ganyan..." Clark Rapinan, one of the respondents of the Dacera case, said in an interview on ANC.

Valentine Rosales, another respondent, said the hotel staff did not perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR on Dacera.

"'Yung medic staff po kasi did not perform any CPR, kumuha lang sila ng wheelchair, di ba pumunta sila, wala pa silang equipment. They said babalik sila, umalis sila cini-CPR siya (Dacera) nila Gigo, Rom and Clark tapos bumalik sila with wheelchair na," Rosales said.

Rapinan and other respondents, namely Rommel Galido and Gregorio de Guzman, were the ones who performed CPR on the 23-year-old flight attendant.

"Sobrang terrified po kami kasi wala siyang malay, para kaming nataranta tapos 'yun nga, no pulse, no pulse... Tapos nag-CPR si Gigo and then ako, then Rommel. Nag-CPR kami, then tumawag na kayo ng hotel staff, ganyan. Dumating sila after three minutes, tinry namin siyang dalhin sa wheelchair," Rapinan recalled.

According to Galido, Dacera was still breathing at 10 a.m. on January 1. However, at noon she was no longer breathing and that her lips was already purplish.

GMA News Online called the hotel to ask for its side regarding the incident but the hotel staff said they would not issue a statement yet on the matter.

Dacera was rushed to Makati Medical Center but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Earlier, the Dacera family said they were eyeing to file a complaint against the City Garden Grand Hotel, the establishment where the group checked-in.

Brick Reyes, spokesperson of the Dacera family, said allowing a number of individuals in hotel rooms is against the regulations being enforced by the national government amid the COVID-19 pandemic. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
