Taguig cop to face extortion charge – NCRPO chief

A police officer assigned to a Taguig City station drug enforcement unit was accused of extorting money from the partner of an arrested suspect on Monday night.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Debold Sinas identified the cop as Police Corporal Hadzmer Amer.

Sinas said an entrapment operation was conducted along General Luna Street in Tuktukan against Amer. Based on the complaint received by authorities, the policeman demanded P35,000 in exchange for the dropping of the case filed against the complainant's partner.

"Ang kaso niya, may nahuli sila sa drugs tapos nanghingi siya... accordingly noong inassess ng joint operation, nanghingi siya ng P35,000 sa live-in partner ng nahuli niya," Sinas said.

Sinas did not disclose the identity of the complainant.

However, the NCRPO chief said Amer had noticed the presence of policemen in the area where he met with the complainant. He then immediately rode his motorcycle and escaped.

"Noong nagbigayan na ng pera, kasi sa tabi lang ng kalsada nagbigayan, nakatakbo si Hadzmer Amer, noong nakita niyang papalapit na 'yung mga pulis, kinuha niya ang pera sa babae at using his motorcycle, humarurot siya," Sinas said.

Sinas said authorities were looking for Amer even as they urged him to report and explain his side.
