P800M worth of suspected shabu found in tea packets, biscuit cans in QC


 

Authorities arrested a Chinese national before dawn on Tuesday after at least 100 kilos of suspected shabu worth more than P800 million was found in a townhouse he was renting in Quezon City.

A total of 118 kilos worth P802 million were confiscated by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-National Capital Region, according to a report by Darlene Cay on GMA News' Unang Balita.

PDEA operatives conducted a buy-bust operation past 2 a.m. in a townhouse in Barangay Siena.

A PDEA agent tried to buy two kilos of shabu from suspect Yunquan Zhang, a Chinese national.

After the transaction went through, authorities immediately raided the townhouse where Zhang was staying.

They found the said contraband in tea packs and biscuit cans.

PDEA Intelligence Officer 3 Lorenzo Advincula Jr., team leader, said the suspect has been under surveillance for a month.

The suspect has been renting the townhouse for a year, he said.

Initial investigation showed the suspect has allegedly been involved in big drug transactions.

It is possible the suspect may have been the supplier of drug pushers, authorities said.

The suspect refused to comment.

He will face charges of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Investigation is ongoing to determine the suspect's accomplices, if any, and source of illegal drugs. —KG, GMA News
