200 kilos of double-dead meat seized in Manila
The National Meat Inspection Service and Manila Veterinary Inspection Board (VIB) on Thursday seized over 200 kilos of suspected double dead pork meat in a market in Manila City.
According to the Manila Public Information Office, 263 kilos of suspected double dead meat were confiscated from the New Antipolo Market in Blumentritt.
Manila VIB chief Nick Santos said the pork ribs emitted "foul odor and discoloration” and showed signs of being "improperly handled and stored."
Santos said the confiscated meat violated the Food Safety Act and Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines.
"The VIB Enforcement Squad Team is intensifying its campaign against unscrupulous individuals who will take advantage of the Christmas season for their illegal activities, victimizing the consuming public,” he added. —Julia Mari Ornedo/NB, GMA News
