8-year-old allegedly raped, placed in sack but lives to tell tale

An 8-year-old girl, who was physically abused then raped, was placed inside a sack and left for dead by the suspect, GMA News' Darlene Cay reported on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

The victim survived the attack and was able to return home and relay the events to her parents.

The victim met the suspect, identified as Sotero Manuguid Jr., on Sunday evening in Taguig City.

Manuguid reportedly lured the child to a vacant lot in exchange for cash.

Police Major Ramon Christian Laygo, Taguig PNP, head of investigation, related that "Pagdating nila sa place of incidence, sinuntok yung bata tapos sinakal. Tapos ginawa na yung kahalayan."

"Tinakot yung bata na kapag nagsumbong siya e papatayin siya. Right then and there, sinuntok uli siya tapos nilagay sa sako, sinilid sa sako," he added.

The police conducted a followup operation.

"Given naman yung pangalan ng suspek natin. Upon arrest, pinakita natin yung picture niya doon sa victim, so positively na-identify siya nung victim," Laygo said.

Based on the medico-legal examination, the child was raped.

The suspect, meanwhile, denied the accusation.

"Wala akong ginawa sa bata," Manuguid said.

"Nagkita po kami nung bata. Siya ay palabas na... Maya-maya nangyari na sa bata, ako na pinag-isipan. Ako lang kasi lumabas doon e," he added.

The suspect is facing charges of rape and attempted homicide.

The victim, meanwhile, is undergoing medical treatment in a hospital. — BAP, GMA News
