Manila Pavilion fire death toll climbs to 5
Authorities on Monday recovered the fifth fatality as it declared fire out at the Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino on Monday morning.
A report on Super Radyo dzBB said the fifth fatality was Jo Cris Sabido, who was declared missing after the fire broke out at the hotel before 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The report said Sabido is reportedly the sibling of another fire fatality earlier identified as Mark Sabido.
Two other fatalities have been identified as Jun Evangelista, a treasury officer and Billy de Castro, an intern security.
Meanwhile, the Manila fire bureau declared fire out at the hotel at 10:56 a.m.
Authorities said at least 24 people, one of them in a critical condition, were injured in the fire.
The Manila fire bureau said the fire spread up to the hotel's seventh floor. It also said that the ground floor was severely damaged.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the fire. It is also looking at reports that the hotel's sprinkler system did not work when the fire broke out.
A fire drill was conducted at the hotel a week before the incident. —Rie Takumi/ALG, GMA News
