Devotees start to line up in Quirino Grandstand for ‘Pahalik sa Poong Nazareno’

Devotees of the Black Nazarene have started to flock to and line up in front of the Quirino Grandstand on Sunday afternoon for the Pahalik sa Poong Nazareno.

The traditional "pahalik" will start on January 8 after the 7 a.m. stakeholder's mass, according to a separate 24 Oras report by Katrina Son.

The report said authorities have created three lines for this year's pahalik:

  • persons with disability/senior citizens
  • female
  • male

"Para nang sa ganon ay maiwasan natin 'yung dami ng tao at madali po natin malabas 'yung Poon," said Edward Gonzales, head of the road emergency group of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

First aid stations and ambulance are already on standby in the area.

Police also inspected the area and checked the 36 CCTV cameras installed at the Quirino Grandstand.

"Bukas may time pa naman tayo ng konti, papanel pa namin 'yan. Papanel pa natin 'yan sa mga EOD, K9 dogs natin to make sure talaga na walang anuman na mga halimbawa... explosives diyan," said Police Senior Superintendent Christopher Tambungan.

Meanwhile, as of 6 p.m., an estimated 110,000 people have joined the procession of the replicas of the Black Nazarene.

About 3,600 to 4,000 replicas were included in Sunday's procession.
