Lechon prices could be higher by P1,000 in December
It may be a pricier to have lechon on the menu this coming holiday season.
In Bernadette Reyes' report for "24 Oras" on Wednesday, an owner of a lechon joint said their suppliers only expect the demand to grow as Christmas and New Year draw near.
"Kasi nga 'yun mga farmer nga, para bang ine-expect nila 'yun demand eh tataas," Ramon Ferreros said.
The popular dish for Pinoy gatherings is not spared from the domino-effect of price hikes this year.
"So nangyari, nagtaas sila ng presyo t'saka, isa pa, honestly, 'yung pagtaas ng diesel," Ferreros added.
Information gathered by GMA News indicate that an entire lechon could cost P500 to P1,000 more compared to December 2017, depending on the size.
A few people interviewed on the report have already made up their minds to serve something else for Noche Buena.
Nevertheless, there are still businesses who sell lechon by the kilo. —Margaret Claire Layug/JST, GMA News
