14 Filipino billionaires on Forbes world's richest list 2017
A record 2,043 billionaires, including 14 Filipinos, made it to the Forbes’ 31st annual ranking of the World’s Billionaires with a collective net worth of $7.67 trillion, up from $6.48 trillion in 2016, the media organization said on Tuesday.
"Bill Gates tops the list for the fourth year in a row with a fortune of $86 billion, up from $75 billion last year," according to Forbes.
Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffet is the second richest in the world with $75.6 billion, followed by Amazon.com's Jeff Bezos with $72.8 billion.
Fashion retailer Zara's Amancio Ortega is number four with $71.3 billion. Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg is fifth on the list with $56 billion.
Regionally, Asia-Pacific boasts the most number of billionaires at 720. Among the billionaires from the Philippines are Henry Sy and family, John Gokongwei Jr., Lucio Tan and family, George Ty and family and Enrique Razon Jr.
In total, 14 Filipinos made it to Forbes magazine's annual list.
Retail, property, and banking tycoon Henry Sy Sr. topped the Filipino billionaires included on the Forbes list, titled "Richest People on the Planet."
With a net worth of $12.7 billion, Sy and his family ranked 94th worldwide. JG Summit's John Gokongwei Jr. followed at 250 with a net worth of $5.8 billion.
The third Filipino on the list is LT Group's Lucio Tan with $3.7 billion at 501. GT Capital Holdings Inc.'s George Ty is fourth with $3.5 billion at 544.
International Container Terminal Services Inc.'s Enrique Razon and Jollibee Foods Corp.'s Tony Tan Caktiong are both ranked 564 with $3.4 billion each.
Construction magnate David Consunji of DMCI holdings Inc. is at rank 630 with $3.1 billion. Real estate giant Megaworld's Andrew Tan is at 814 with $2.5 billion.
Robert Coyiuto Jr. of luxury cars distributor PGA Cars Inc. is at 1,376 with $1.5 billion, with Vista Land's Manuel Villar also at 1,376 with $1.5 billion.
San Miguel Cop.'s Ramon Ang is at 1,463 with $1.4 billion. Also from San Miguel is Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. at 1,678 with $1.2 billion.
Alphaland Corp.'s Roberto Ongpin is at 1,795 with $1.1 billion. The last and youngest Filipino on the list is Edgar Sia of DoubleDragon Properties Corp. at 1,940 with $1 billion. — Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News
