BIR-DOF infographic: Did Makati-based accountants pay the right amount of taxes?

Of the 337 registered accountants in the Revenue District Offices of Makati, only 111 filed their income tax in 2012, or a third of the professionals listed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for the area, the Department of Finance said Wednesday.

This means that – approximately – only one of every three registered accountants in Makati City has filed their income tax in 2012, the department said in an e-mailed infographic that is part of the weekly shame campaign of the BIR.

Of those who filed their ITR, 15 percent declared P27,360 as the tax they should pay.

"This is less than the annual income tax paid by a public school teacher earning P18,549 in a month," the Finance Department noted.

One accountant even declared P313 as tax due compared to a gross income of P810,100. "This is only 0.04 percent of the income," the department added. – VS, GMA News
